Butcher block and countertops
A butcher block is an assembled form of wood in any shape. Usually butchers blocks are used as cutting boards, table tops and chopping blocks. There are edge grain and end grain butchers block and end grain is the commonly used type due to its durable nature. End grain butchers block has a harder surface which is suitable for the daily use of sharp knives. The end grain block is made by bonding wood pieces with the fibre perpendicular to the surface. Commercial blocks have a thickness more than four inches. All these features make the end grain block capable of withstanding repeated strokes of heavy meat cleavers. End grain butcher block are preferred by professional chefs as this will help their knives stay longer due to its extra hard layer.
Professional installation of butcher block countertops will give your kitchen a more fashionable look. Butcher block countertops can be finished mainly by two ways: mineral oil finish and varnique finish. The mineral oil finish is not a waterproof method as the oil will get removed every time you wash the countertop. So if you have sinks in butcher block countertops, the area near the sink will turn dark gradually. So everyone prefers varnique finish which gives you a satin polyurethane finish which is waterproof. The butcher block countertops come in a variety of wood species and the colour and price will change according to the type of wood selected.
